Often we think that communication is only through verbal only. But statistics show that only a mere 5% of our communication is via verbal. Then where did the other 95% go to?
The other 95% of our communication is through “Body Language”
In this blogpost, I will sharing about 7 Essential Body Language that we should have.
- Eye Contact- Look directly at someone when they talk to you. But please, DO NOT STARE no matter how beautiful they are. You may think that eye contact is not important at all but by having eye contact with someone shows that you are paying attention to what he/she is saying. When I say “Do not stare”, it means that you should not look directly into the person’s eye for very long. Your eyes should take a few seconds off the person’s eyes once awhile.

- Standing Posture- Always stand up straight and do not slouch. Slouching makes one look much shorter than his/her actual height. Standing straight also shows your confidence to the one you are speaking to.

- Smile-And you will be thinking smile? Is a smile that important? A smile is extremly important because it shows to a person that you are a friendly person. Make an effort to smile, be happy and optimistic. By showing that you are optimistic is a good first impression and will attract positive people to you.

- Gestures- Do not make repeated and nervous gestures like twirling your pen and playing with your hair. It is important to use gestures as this gives “life” to you as a person.
- Personal Space- You should create your own personal space so that people do not walk over you. Having your own personal space shows that you are firm as a person and it brings about a good impression about you.
- Attentiveness- Listen to what others are saying. Making others repeat what they said brings about a very bad impression of you and they may think that you do not value them and thus, do not pay attention.

- First Impressions Count- Whatever you do on the first impression counts a lot. The First Impression forms a picture of you as a person in the person’s mind. How beutiful or ugly you want your image to be depends a lot on what you do or look on your first impression. If you appear as a neat and tidy person, then that person will remember you as a tidy and neat person. However, if you appear as a untidy and dirty person, then you will be remembered as what you looked. Honestly , from my personal experience, the image of the first impression of the person is very hard to change especially when it is a negative image.
