Did you know that public speaking is the Number 1 fear that most people have?
Most people would do almost anything just as long as they do not need to do public speaking. Some people can “invent” excuses you have not heard before (for e.g. I do not want to do a speech because I am allegic to the stage). Some people also would shiver and some people may even wet their pants just on hearing that they have to do public speaking. Shocking isn’t it?
Speaking to an audience is always scary especially when you have no training or you have experienced bad experiences of talking in front of a crowd or you simply are introvert.
So in this blogpost, I gathered 7 simple tips for you to improve your public speaking. How much you will improve depends on your effort to practise and perserve.
Tip #1: Just Speak
How does a swimmer learn how to swim? By swimming right? If you want to swim, just jump and swim!
So just speak more and as you speak more, you will get the hang of public speaking and the more you speak, the more comfortable you will tend to be.
Tip #2- Its not about you. Focus on audience needs
Provide value or valuable information to your audience so that they can benefit or learn from it and they will start to like you. By having the audience interest in mind, you appear to be more of a helper than someone who just goes up to speak
Tip#3 -Look good, feel good
Wear your best and look your best. By wearing something good will boost your confidence and you will be able to speak better.
Most people determine who you are by the way you look so if you dress well, neat and clean clothes, you would give others an image of you to be a neat and clean person.
Tip #4- Get familiar with the room, audience and equipment
Be comfortable of the surroundings where you will be speaking. For example, the room, the equipment and the people.
One suggestion is to go and meet the audience and talk to them. Start by saying Hi to everyone so that they are no longer strangers to you. Most people then to speak better to their friends than strangers. I personally would feel more comfortable talking to friends as I know a little about them and thus, I can express more emotions and more personal information like my hobbies and etc.
Tip #5-Practise, Practise, Practise!
I can never emphasize enough on this as practise makes perfection. By doing something over and over again until it is so familiar to you, you will be able to do it well with lesser mistakes.
Before you speak, you can practise in your head and visualise how you will be giving your speech.
Also, you can focus on a positive outcome during and after your speech so that by your mind is condition for positive results.
Remember, the mind produces results not according to the facts but according to your beliefs.
Tip #6-Its OK to make mistakes
When you are speaking and if you make a mistake, do not stop there as you will by magnifying the mistakes you made. Just go on and try to forget about it. My friend, Nishant (The World Record Holder and Master of Memory) who is also an experienced public speaker, he says that the audience have very low memory for remembering mistakes and even ifyou screw up a little but throughout the talk, you give good content and value, the audience will forgive you
Tip #7-If you want to become a good public speaker, model after someone who is an excellent public speaker.
Model after successful and professional public speakers. Learn how they speaker, watch videos of them speaking, listen to their tone and their pace when they speak, notice their hand gestures and try to follow the way they speak.
As the saying goes “If you want to get the same results as someone, just do what he is doing”
Here are some successful speakers all around the world
1. President of United States, Barack Obama
2.T Harv Eker
3.Tony Robbins
That would be all for this blogpsot.
I hope you enjoyed this blogpost.

Number 7 is especially important. Most of these speakers are perfect and never make mistakes, in fact I think lots of times they plan to make a mistake just to loosen up a little. Obama and Tony Robbins are two great speakers. I think you should also model after someone who has the closest personality as yours. For example, can you see yourself speaking like Obama or are you more the Tony Robbins type of personality?
Clinton
OOOpppps LOL I made a mistake! I meant to say, these speakers are NOT perfect and often make mistakes despite being great speakers. Could you please edit that? Thanks:)
